Our inspiration

Fonteneige is inspired by the message of Saint Josémaria Escriva. Josémaria Escriva founded Opus Dei, an institution of the Catholic Church to which the spiritual activities organized at the Fonteneige University Centre are entrusted.

Saint Josémaria Escriva was born in 1902, in Barbastro, Spain. He was ordained to the priesthood in Saragossa on March 28, 1925. On October 2, 1928, he founded Opus Dei. He established the first student residence in Madrid, followed by others in cities throughout the world where Opus Dei is present. The first members of Opus Dei arrived in Canada in 1957. The Fonteneige University Centre opened its doors in 1997. St. Josémaria passed away in 1975. Pope John Paul II canonized St. Josémaria in St. Peters Square on October 6, 2002.

Those interested may develop their faith and their spiritual life, and may assist at daily or weekly Mass at Fonteneige, if they so desire. Residents may also take advantage of courses or activities concerning the Catholic faith.
